Biblical Counseling can be defined as walking patiently with a client, who is struggling, and assisting them to apply God’s principles to the problems they may be facing.
Biblical Counseling looked at relationships or individuals from a Biblical perspective. The counselor either uses biblical principles and/or scripture to help guide the conversation during a session.
Ephesians 5:21 Discusses instructions for Christian households. “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Deuteronomy 30: 15, 19 Urges each person to choose life over death. “ee, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction...his day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live”.
Whether a client mention or does not mention biblical principles directly, the counselor focuses on where they see truth and how they live their life.
Dr. Lord states the “Bible is a manual for living”. It provides us with stories of individuals in the midst of problems that still have hope. In addition, it provides us with a source of strength through the Lord and Holy Spirit.
When looking at relationships, biblical counseling helps emphasize caring about each other, listening skills, as well as loving and supporting each other unconditionally.
A great book to reference, according to Dr. Lord, is Christ-Centered Biblical Counseling: Changing Lives with God's Changeless Truth by James MacDonald.
Here at ACTS, both Dr. Lord and Judy Jakubowicz are licensed to do Biblical Counseling and would be happy to help in any way.
